It is a known fact that herbs develop their highest therapeutic potential in high mountain plantations. In addition to the unpolluted nature, this is also an important reason why our hemp is grown on the high mountain organic farm in Slovenian Alps.

Hemp flowers can be prepared as a tea (1 g per half liter of water). Add a teaspoon of coconut or olive oil for better absorption of cannabinoids in the brew. CBD drops, CBG drops or orally consumed cannabinoids (drops or hemp tea) usually need about an hour to reach the highest value in the blood and thus their maximum therapeutic effect.

For many medical conditions associated with significant pain, this is too long. In these instances it is advised vaporizing of the flowers or by inhaling cannabinoid resin. In case of vaporisation, cannabinoids reach maximum values in the blood plasma after about ten minutes. Therefore, inhalation is often prescribed as one of the ingestion routes. Read more on the tab about inhaling/vaporization.

Why CBG hemp and not CBD?

CBD hemp flowers always exceed the permitted THC value in the EU (0,2%). For this reason CBD flowers are “washed” to reduce the amount of cannabinoid resin, which also proportionally reduces THC below the permitted 0.2%. Flowers treated in this way also lose practically all other therapeutic substances (terpenes, flavonoids). There is also a very real possibility that traces of harmful solvents have remained on the flowers.

The only hemp with a high content of cannabinoid resin, in which the THC values are within the permitted limits, is the so-called CBG hemp. Cannabigerol, or CBG, is a well researched cannabinoid with prononuced therapeutic value.

What is medicinal cannabis

Medical cannabis is usually (but not the rule) grown indoor. This prevents insemination from possible nearby plantations, and also prevents atmospheric contamination. Hemp is a dioecious weed plant and the seed carried by the wind travels for miles. The fertilized flowers of female plants produce less resin, as they direct their life energy into the seeds. The disadvantage of growing indoor under artifical light is that the plant lacks the entire spectrum of visible sunlight as well as the rest of the wave spectrum. This inevitably influences its composition – it reduces the spectrum of therapeutic compounds.

Medicinal cannabis is grown from the mother plant with cuttings. This ensures identical genetic material between different “harvests” several times a year. Identical (read: very similar) cannabinoid and terpene composition is important so that doctors and patients can predict the effects of each variety with a certain probability. Science is advancing rapidly in the field of genetics that provide best results for certain diseases.

The third important factor is the absence of pollutants that can harm users or patients. According to pharmacological standards, the levels of pesticides, heavy metals and microbiological contaminants (e.g. mould) must be below certain values. Medicinal cannabis is therefore regularly tested to assure its compliance with pharmaceutical standards.

Usually medical cannabis also has THC values higher than 0.2%, but this is not a requirement. In general, medical cannabis is divided into THC-dominant varieties, CBD-dominant varieties and balanced varieties, where both cannabinoids are in a certain balanced ratio.

We add the thoughts of molecular microbiologist Dr. Arno Hazekamp:

I believe cannabis will become the ‘traditional’ medicine that has made the biggest leap forward into ‘modern’ medicine. As a result, I expect many more psychoactive plant medicines to follow which may revolutionize the way we perform medicine. After all, when cannabis can make it as modern medicine, how can we stop other plants from following the same path towards modern medicine. Yes, the future will be full of plant-based medicines. And research by trained scientists will support this trend, where the study focus is based on what real patients need. Often, research is too much defined by commercial interests, or academic preferences. Cannabis is a medicine by the people, for the people. Science and medicine going hand in hand for individualized and personal natural medical approaches, this is what I hope for and see in the future. (first published 12/18/2020 on the  ICANNA blog).

About vaporisation

Which vaporizer to choose? A good vaporizer should have a wide herbs chamber to easily insert the flower into it. It is recommended that it also has an attached (integrated) “toothpick” to help you clean the chamber because heated hemp sticks to the walls and it is difficult to remove. A good feature is if a herb vaporiser vibrates when the preset temperature is reached and when it turns off. It is recommended to have a program with which we can set the maximum heating time (usually it is set to around five minutes). An essential feature is convention heating which enables even heating of the entire chamber.

Recommended use: insert the crumbled flower into the vaporizer and start inhaling. When you inhale a particular type of cannabis for the first time, take just one puff, then wait ten minutes to see what the effect is. With careful dosing, you will find out the amount suitable for you. Cannabis flowers differ in composition and two different purchases can have different effects – especially if they are two different varieties of cannabis.
